Tennis has been a huge part of my life since I was young. I grew up playing in competitive USTA tournaments and was a starting player on the varsity tennis team throughout my high school career. I was nominated captain of the team my senior year and was honored to fulfill this leadership position. As mentioned on my job experience page, I was a tennis instructor this past summer for young children and teens. Nothing was more rewarding than being able to show young athletes my appreciation for the game and watch as their growth as tennis players. That being said, tennis has taught me valuable lessons about hard work, dedication and never giving up. This sport is not just an interest to me but a devotion that has shaped my overall character.
Along with tennis, being involved in my church’s youth ministry has also had a huge impact on my life and the person that I am today. I attended youth group all throughout high school, which involved community service trips, annual retreats and attending a national youth conference during my senior year of high school. During my senior year I was chosen by my youth ministry to be one of the few selected youth leaders for my church. In order to accept this title, I attended a mandatory week long training in Brentwood, New York along with a small group of my peers. The responsibilities of this title including running weekly meetings for members of the youth ministry and planning special events, as well as preforming other duties that benefitted the ministry. Being involved in my church’s youth ministry and serving as a youth leader still continues to be one of the greatest experiences of my life, which I am so grateful to have been a part of.
Throughout my life I have always had in interest in traveling and exploring other parts of the country or even local parts of my own state. I look forward to studying abroad in Newcastle, England next semester along with some of my classmates. During this time I hope to visit other countries where I have never been including Italy, Ireland, Spain, Germany, and many more. I look forward to taking full advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity in meeting new people and becoming immersed in other cultures and their way of living. I know this experience will be challenging at times but I know that it will ultimately allow me to grow and provide me with experiences memories that I will hold onto for a lifetime.
